Not today

When it comes time I will crumble,
and float like pollen on the breeze –
get up all of your noses, then
commingle with the earth’s great seas.

Not today, not today

When it comes time I’ll run away
Pull my thin coat tight in the sleet –
melt like butter on a crumpet,
an oily sheen on neon streets.

But not today, not today

Come the time I shall disappear,
fade away leaving just a grin –
effacement atom by atom,
memory by memory: Fin.

Yet not today, not today
